Hail to the Chief

I say "you go, President Obama." It's been a long time since we've had a president we can be proud of. I think what the president did today was quite admirable. Maybe I'm naive, but I didn't see a hidden agenda. I think he's a concerned father and he wanted to reach out to kids.

Leah said that one of her classmates was taken out of school because her parents didn't want her viewing the president's speech. I was a bad mom and I said "her parents must not be very smart." Yes. I said that.

It's great that he spoke to kids about responsibility and helping to make our country stronger. It reinforces what I hope other parents and teachers are saying.

Leah seemed unaffected by the speech which concerned me a bit but she is only 8. She has her sights set on becoming a dog trainer which probably doesn't require a bachelor's degree (but she doesn't know that.)

Maybe, parents did not like the carriculim package that came with the speach. Instructing teachers to have children draw posters of the President, sharing their favorite campaign slogans and to write letters to him about what they can do for him and carry them around with them always. Maybe then when they vote they can draw on this glowing moment.
I have no problem with the president of the Unites States who ever he is encouraging children to stay in school and reach their idividual potential. When the White House refuses to let parents preview the speach first and then instructs the teacher to include in their carriculim some strange worship session, it is truly creepy. Part of being an American is freedom of choice. Campaigning in the classroom is a violation of this.

I do love receiving comments, but I hope the last one isn't from one of my friends :-)
My daughter was not asked to make any posters or pay homage to the President. She was only asked to stay in school and take responsibility for her life. Perhaps you need to change school districts whoever you are. Now really, did the Obama administration ask the children to carry around the slogans with them always? Really? C'mon, let's take a breath and focus on the real message.
